Posted : 17 Jul 2009 How To Prevent One-Time Visitors
Creating a website has been made the easiest part of the whole internet spectrum due to sites like WordPress and Joomla. However once your site is up what you do need to work at is generating traffic to your site. The purpose of having a website is to reach people or your targeted customers, by getting as much visitors as achievable to your site where the real challenge lies.
When starting out make sure your information is up to date to prevent visitors thinking that this site is not current. You need to capture each visitor so be informative but in a conversational language with your content to get the visitor to be kept intrigued. When giving information to your readers do not be scared to give relevant external links that lead the reader away from your site. To your reader you will be helping them to find more information and they will appreciate this and surely come back to you because of your neutral point of writing.
Be sure to have an interactive opportunity for your visitors and readers are able to interact in some way with your blog. To encourage visitors to keep visiting your site for more information you have to keep updating your blog consistently and for example at the end of each article write something in the lines of “… be sure to come back as I’ll be posting more useful information for you to take advantage of,” this will turn your one-off visitors into loyal readers. Having a blog is the best way of maintaining some sort of connection with your visitors.
Sending out an email/newsletter frequently to your readers will have you engraved in their memories. Some of them are also likely to retweet your useful information to others and as a result giving you more exposure of yourself as an expert in your industry but also as a person who really cares about his readers.
A blog should be seen as some sort of communication forum so occasionally you may want to invite a guest and ask them to write or speak in a video on your blog. They could state some useful techniques that you haven’t dug deep into or if you have a chat room, some interactive session can take place there. To show your readers that you are keen on current issues and concerns having a guest speaker really shows you’re on top of things and are looking for new ways to get information across to them.
You may also want to have Prize days or even quizzes or contests on your site, where you give away prizes to those who interact the most or to actual winners of contests. By giving away some sort of promotional items you will definitely win over first-time visitors. People love freebies and always on the look out for free things that they can benefit from, so they’re a great way of promoting your site and attracting potential customers. By the way having a poll every week or so is growing really popular so get in the wave or be prepared to wiped out!
