Keywords are the important words in the content of a webpage, which is used by the users to search through search engines. When the user types a keyword in the search box, the search engines looks for the matching keyword in websites and brings out the desired result. Thus it is very important to websites.

When building or revamping your website you need to choose keywords with care.  This is important in attracting traffic to your site.  More traffic should be translated as more money.

They can be a single word or even a string of words.  They have to summarize the content of your site or they have to echo the theme.  In choosing these vital words one must research accurate keywords as to what users will input when looking for your product or service.

When optimizing your site for search engines, keywords are the main consideration.  When your primary word is used, the search engine must bring up the name of your site in the first page of the results itself.  If the primary word pertaining to your site does not do so, then it is weak.  You now have to look for vital phrases using SEO tools or else hire an SEO expert.  In neglecting to do so, you will lose a lot of money and potential customers.

Keywords therefore help in popularizing your site.  It is like a form of advertisement and is very powerful.  Yet, it is one of the cheapest means to put your site on the search engine map.

As soon as you have found the right phrases, you will notice a rise in the amount of traffic to your site.  When advertising agents find that your site gets an unusually large number of hits, they will want to advertise in your site.  So not only your business blossoms but now, you have found a profitable side business too.  If you want to know the truth, many sites are set up with the dream of earning an income solely by displaying ads.

Small business owners dream big and try to sell website space more than their own products.  That does not mean business giants are not interested in the product, they are all there because the advertisements tell customers how important and popular their site is.  This boosts the value of their products.

They also increase the worth of your website.  Once you achieve a target of so many thousand hits per day, you can sell your website for a nice sum of money and then repeat with another site.  Many have made millions because of this technique of gaining high traffic and then selling their space.

Do not excessively overuse keywords in your website.  If a search engine finds that you have repeatedly used them, it would black list or remove your website from its search list.  Consider your actions carefully.  It has to tip the scales in your favor and not the other way round.

You can incorporate your keywords in the title or even in your links.  That is a neat way to pull in more traffic. Then you can see for yourself the importance of keywords.
